Goodbye 2009, Hello 2010

I thought I would mention a few last books of 2009 before moving on to things to look forward to in 2010!

Into the Wild Nerd Yonder by Julia Halpern

This is a laugh out loud look at losing friends, finding friends, fitting in, and being cool in high school. I am so happy to have found this gem and I highly recommend it!

How to Say Goodbye in Robot by Natalie Standiford

This is another book about fitting in and friendship, but not as humorous as Into the Wild Nerd Yonder. I was drawn to the book by the funky cover and title. The characters are quirky and the story is kind of sad. I will definitely recommend this to teen readers.

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

Again, the cool cover made me pick this book up, expecting a light, fun, summer read. Boy was I surprised! Talk about heartbreaking! If you can handle a sad story I highly recommend this one, but don’t worry, it was a happy ending.

Two of those last three favorites of 2009 are real downers, but now I will cheer you up with a few things to look forward to in 2010 (I’m nice that way)!

The list of books that I am looking forward to next year is very long, but the list of books being made into movies is much shorter and I am just as excited about them. Here are the first 3 on that list:

Youth in Revolt starring Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Justin Long, and Ray Liotta is based on the book Youth in Revolt: the Journals of Nick Twisp by C.D. Payne, opens in theaters January 8, 2010. If you have read the book, you know this movie has to be hilarious!

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: the Lightning Thief starring Logan Lerman, Uma Thurman, and Pierce Brosnan is based on the novel with the same title by Rick Riordan. This action packed movie opens February 12th, 2010 and I for one, plan to be there!

Alice in Wonderland starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, and Anne Hathaway is based on the classic Lewis Carroll book. Director Tim Burton will no doubt deliver a visually stunning and magical film to theaters March 5, 2010.

April-July will bring more books to the movies, but I am not ready to tell about them yet! Check back later.

Happy New Year!
