I can’t believe the school year is almost over! Summer is right around the corner, and with is….Summer Reading! I have spent the past week gather the schools’ lists and trying to get everything organized. All of the books that we own that are on lists can be found in the Teen Summer Reading section. The lists can also be found in a three-ring binder in the Teen Room. If the book you want isn’t there chances are I have more copies on order. Come find me and I will put a hold on for you.
Here at the library we like to plan our own summer reading events. This year I decided to spice things up and challenge all you readers out there. Beginning June 14th you can sign up for summer reading at the library. If more than 200 teens sign up I will come to work dressed like a pirate (it’s a water theme this year). If those teens read over 1000 I dye my hair hot pink and wear it that way for a month. It’s not often that the opportunity for public humiliation presents itself so easily, so I suggest taking advantage!
Summer reading sign up is still a month away, but tomorrow is Teen Scene in the Basement. Stop in for a snack and hang out and play video games.
Looking for a new series? Try Rick Riordan’s latest, The Kane Chronicles. Book One is the Red Pyramid and it is fabulous! Riordan does a great job of sorting out the complicated relationships between the Egyptian gods. Fans of Percy Jackson will not be disappointed. There is plenty of magic, mythology, action, and of course humor and awesome animal sidekicks. This ones a winner, add it to your summer reading list. At over 500 pages, that was the only book I managed to finish this week.
