Mondays With Megan-I Think There Was a Team Sport on TV, But My Book Was More Interesting!

I know everyone is all abuzz about the Super Bowl-Ravens, Beyonce, black out, blah, blah, blah…I had it on in the background. While reading I managed to catch some commercials, a record-setting play, and a little dancing, but honestly, I was super excited to switch over to Downton Abbey.

Right now Cleveland has lots of pretty, pretty snow and it is not bothering me one bit, but I am thankful that good old Punxsutawny Phil predicts an early spring. A girl can only handle the cold for so long. In the meantime, I plan to stay in, get cozy, and plow (har har) through my TBR pile. I am a little behind pace on my 2013 reading goal, but I am confident I will make it up. I have some last-minute preparations to make for my chocolate program on Wednesday (details will follow), so let’s do a quick reading check in with Book Journey and Teach Mentor Texts.

Finished:

double crossed little lady and prince just one day dualed seraphina

I loved the Ally Carter Gallagher Girls/Heist Society cross over short story. I will be sure to ask her if there will be more when I see her next week!!! I finally finished the Little Lady Agency series by Hester Browne. What a great end to a fun and charming series. I definitely recommend it! I am still mulling over Just One Day by Gayle Forman. I wanted to LOVE it. Here is what I think. Gayle Forman writes a brilliant, heartbreaking boy. There is so much about this book that I really liked, but I am so confident that I am going to LOVE Just One Year. I had the same feelings about If I Stay (really liked) and Where She Went (gut-wrenching LOVE). I finished my ARC of Dualed by Elsie Chapman last night and I am still thinking about what I want to say in my review. I should have that up this week. Technically I have not finished Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, but I have about 15 minutes of audio left and I will finish it at lunch, so I am counting it. What a strange and marvelous little book!

Currently Reading/Listening:

ask and answer lost stories  art of wishing ready

I am so glad I decided to get back to the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness. Book two, The Ask and the Answer, sucked me right back into the story. I also picked up the most recent and second to last installment of the The Ranger’s Apprentice series, The Lost Stories. I am in no hurry with this one, so my will probably see it on my list for a while. My current ARC is The Art of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar and my next audio is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I have heard great things and I am really excited to get started.

On Deck:

 whiteout twelve

I need to read a suspense/thriller for the next Adult Services genre book discussion, so I thought I would give Ken Follett’s Whiteout a try. I have also been craving a little Stephanie Plum, so I may pick up the next one some time soon.

What are you working on this week?

Happy Reading!

  1. I did the same thing with Seraphina on my IMWAYR blog post a couple weeks ago! I said I finished it when I still had about 15 minutes of audio left. Don’t worry, the last 15 minutes are awesome!

  2. “Strange and marvelous” is a great way to describe Seraphina, which I absolutely loved. And I agree with you about Just One Day—it’s good in its own right, but I think that Just One Year will build on it enough to be GREAT.

  3. I loved Seraphina. I was glad that Rachel Hartman won a Morris Award last week. I really liked Ready Player One too. Dualed is on my stack and I should be reading it soon. My Monday Report is here. Happy reading!

  4. I’m curious to see what you have to say about Dualed. I’ve been looking forward to it ever since I heard about it. I’ve also been wanting to read Seraphina, but it may be a while until I get to it.

Right now I’m reading City of a Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster.

  5. Ask and the Answer was my fave out of the three! I’m a sucker for good sequels. I think I’ll check out the audiobook for Seraphina; several bloggers seemed to have enjoyed it, and I’m a little intimidated by it for some reason.

  6. Looks like you had a great reading week. Seraphina is one I hope to get to, but haven’t yet. And I loved Ready Player One – I hope you’re enjoying t 🙂

  7. I’ve been meaning to read Seraphina, I have heard many wonderful things about it. Hope it was good!

Have a lovely reading week! Whatcha readin’ this week @ the Brunette Librarian and Don’t forget to enter to win Philippa Gregory’s “Changeling”

  8. I just finished the first Ranger’s Apprentice book and I was really impressed with John Flanagan’s world building. I bet the stories text will be wonderful!

  9. I’m glad you liked The Ask and the Answer! That’s on deck for me too (one of these days)! I really got into The Knife of Never Letting Go a couple of summers ago and never got around to the sequel. A lot of good picks this week! Happy Reading!

  10. So I think I should check out Seraphina, heard good things. I should read the Ask and the Answer already, I want to know what happens to them.
    Enjoy your books

  11. I have to say, I feel the same way about Just One Day. I did love If I Stay, though. But I loved Where She Went even more. I haven’t heard of the Little Lady Agency so I’ll have to check it out. And I have double-crossed on my Kindle so I need to get to that one too. And someone just gave me Ready Player One. Your list could be mine in about 2 weeks!

  12. Double Crossed was so much fun. I have four copies of I’d Tell You I Love You…, and it’s even popular with the boys in my library. I can’t wait for the next Gallagher Girls book. Have fun with The Lost Stories– nice back story on Will.

  13. I want to read Just One Day, but I made a promise to myself that I’d read her first two books first! 🙂

Oh, Stephanie Plum. The longer this series goes on, the more frustrated I get with her. PICK RANGER! lol
