Top Ten Tuesday-Books to Get You in the Halloween Spirit-10/28/14

toptentuesday

This week The Broke and the Bookish are getting into the Halloween spirit! I am a big scaredy cat and can’t even watch the horror movie previews/commercials on tv, so I am going to stick to books…that are sort of spooky.

1. Amity by Michol Ostow. Super creepy haunted house!

2. Evil Librarian by Michelle Knudsen. The title speaks for itself-the new librarian is a demon!

3. Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy.  A skeleton detective solving supernatural crimes.

4. Through the Woods by Emily Carroll. Gothic, graphic ghost stories.

5. Screaming Staircase by Jonathon Stroud. Clever middle grade/teen ghost story.

6. In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters. Spiritualism and Spanish Influenza, plus creepy photos!

7. Diviners by Libba Bray. The scariest book on my list! Flappers, the occult, supernatural powers…and that song. Oh, man, that song.

8. Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender. Evil ghost out for revenge.

9. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride. Wicked, dark humor.

10. Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. My favorite zombie book!

  1. Forest of Hands and Teeth is my favorite zombie book, too. I just bought In the Shadow of Blackbirds because I loved The Cure For Dreaming. I can’t believe I haven’t read The Diviners yet. Great list. I decided to do book inspired costumes. Happy Halloween!

  2. I’m so with you on scary movies! I can’t handle them. I get serious nightmares! I would probably be nervous about some of these books too, tho I’ve been meaning to start Lockwood & Co for a while.
