Top Ten Tuesday-Ten Series I Have Yet to Finish! 9/8/15

toptentuesdayThis week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, has me once again reviewing my TBR list. I thought I was pretty much caught up on all my series, but oh, how wrong I was!

1. Raging Star, (The Dust Lands #3) by Moira Young. I am not sure why I haven’t finished this series.

raging star

2. The World Forgot (The Ever-Expanding Universe #3) by Martin Leicht. I really want to finish this series. I should grab it; I could use a good laugh.

world forgot

3. The Eye of Zoltar (The Chronicles of Kazam #3) by Jasper Fforde. The only reason I have not finished this series is because I really, really want to listen to book three and it’s just not available. Sigh.

eye of zoltar

4. The Invaders (The Brotherband Chronicles #2) by John Flanagan. I don’t think I ever fully recovered from finishing The Ranger’s Apprentice series.

5. Rivals in the City (The Agency #4) by Y.S. Lee. I suppose I just haven’t been in the mood for this one. I am have been eye-ball deep in fantasy.

rivals in the city

6. City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) by Cassandra Clare. I am not sure I have it in me to finish this series. I was already super annoyed that she stretched a trilogy into six books. This last book is enormous and I just don’t know if I even care. Also, I can’t really remember what happened in book five.

city of heavenly

7. The Dying of the Light (Skulduggery Pleasant #9) by Derek Landy. I haven’t finished this series BECAUSE NO LIBRARY IN THE STATE OF OHIO OWNS THIS IRISH IMPORT. IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE AND I AM GETTING READY TO BUY THE WHOLE DARNED SERIES FOR MYSELF. I am sorry to yell. I am just a bit worked up about this situation.

8. Ensnared (Splintered #3) by A.G. Howard. This is another one that I want to listen to, but it’s not available.

9. Hero of Ages (Mistborn #3) by Brandon Sanderson. Ok, this one is really just to complete the list. I am plowing through this series. I have two audiobooks checked out right now that have holds, so I will listen to them before diving back into this series. I love it.

hero of ages

10. In a Handful of Dust (Not a Drop to Drink #2) by Mindy McGinnis. This one has fallen victim to I-own-it-so-it-is-not-a-priority-syndrome.

I have some work to do!

Top Ten Tuesday-Where’s the Chemistry? Characters I Didn’t Click With-9/1/15

It’s been ages since I have made a top ten list! I am so happy to be back with   The Broke and the Bookish with an all new list. Check out this list of characters that I just could relate to for one reason or another. No chemistry.

1. Lola from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I loved Anna, but could not get into Lola. I was pretty sad about it, but then I remembered that there are tons of other books to read and I was ok.

2. Gwen and Cassidy from What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick. This is a similar situation. I loved her first book, My Life Next Door, but could not get into this one. I am really excited for The Boy Most Likely To!

what i thought was true

3. America Singer and everyone else from the train wreck that is The Selection by Kiera Cass. I have nothing but UGH to say.

4. Grace from the Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater. Not only did we not click, this girl inspired rage in me. I have since made up with Maggie Stiefvater, thanks to The Raven Boys. But Shiver? Blah.

5. Zoey Redbird from The House of Night series by P.C. Cast. Another rage-inducer.

house of night

6. Ruby and crew from The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I am in the minority on this one, I think. I really did not like this book.

darkest minds

7. Hazel and Gus from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Nope.

8.  Violet and Chelsea from Desires of the Dead (The Body Finder #2) by Kimberley Derting. I really like the first book so I was disappointed when Violet turned into a whiny, insecure person in book two and Chelsea became a bully and everyone was ok with it. I stopped the series here.

desires of the dead

I really try not to waste time reading books that don’t work for me, so I am going to stop here.

Happy Reading!

Top Ten Tuesday-My Most Recently Acquired Books-7/14/15

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is pretty self explanatory. All my recent acquisitions have been library books or ARCs. I haven’t bought myself any books in a while!

1. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. I was pleasantly surprised to discover I was in the first waves of holds for this controversial “new” book! I downloaded the audio and immediately got going. The story is read by Reese Witherspoon, who does a fantastic job. It’s a short listen and I had the morning off and a ton of yard work so I am almost finished. Finished! I like grown-up Scout.

2. This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp. I just downloaded this one this morning. It’s a 2016 debut release about a school shooting told from different POVs. I have about 10 e-galleys to read before I get to this one.

this is where it ends

3. Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland. I ordered this audiobook through our interlibrary loan program. I am looking forward to listening to the autobiography of the woman who was just named the first African-American principle dancer in the American Ballet Theatre Company.

4. Lists of Note: an Eclectic Collection by Shaun Usher. I love lists!

5. The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! I am SO excited for this one!

6. Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson. I have heard such great things about this graphic novel. I need to have graphic novel binge reading day and read this as well as get caught up with Fables, The Walking Dead, and Ms. Marvel. I am so behind!

7. These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly. I am currently reading this e-galley. So far, so good!

8. The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. I love Patrick Ness and am really excited to read his newest book!

rest of us just live here

9. Ink and Ashes by Valynne Maetani. This debut just came across my desk and after reading the first page I decided to take it home.

ink and ashes

10. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman. This is another e-galley. I have heard good things.

I think this is a pretty diverse reading list, if I do say so myself!

Happy Reading!

Top Ten Tuesday-10 Hyped Books I Have Never Read-7/7/15

toptentuesdayThis week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish is all about those books that seem to get all the love, but we still have and/or won’t read. Many of these are fairly recent titles and most are on my TBR list, but realistically I probably won’t get to all of them.

1. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen. I think I have read two Sarah Dessen books and they were fine, but this one is getting so much hype I thought I would give it a try.

saint anything

2. Young Elites by Marie Lu. I started this book when it first came out and it didn’t click immediately like I had expected. I really loved her Legend series and I wanted to love this one. So, I set it aside before it was ruined for me before it even had a chance. I will try it again soon!

young elites

3. The Winner’s Curse by Maria Rutkoski. I feel very “meh” about this one. I think I am okay with passing on it.

winner's curse

4. The Wrath and Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. I feel pretty confident that this one lives up to the hype. I will definitely be reading this one.

5. The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I am worried this will be another Young Elites. I keep putting it off. I can’t unhear the reviews that call it a let down. Sigh.

red queen

6. An Ember in the Ash by Sabaa Tahir. I have an ARC of this and STILL haven’t read it. Looking back over my list so far I am noticing I have listed quiet a few fantasies. Maybe I am just not in the mood for fantasy right now?

7. The Heir by Kiera Cass. It took my reading all three books in The Selection trilogy to realize I truly loathed everything about them. This one is not for me.

8. The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I am just not interested.

maze runner

9. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I just never got into this series. I tried the first one, but didn’t get very far before giving up.

10. Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Nope.

Top Ten Tuesday-Best Books of 2015 (So Far!) 6/30/15

Why should December have all the fun with all the “Best of the Year” list? This week The Broke and the Bookish are talking about a mid-year Best of 2015 list! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about our favorites so far. I did a quick review of my Goodreads lists and learned that I have read or listened to 120 books so far this year-34 YA, 27 Non-YA, 14 Nonfiction, and 45 Graphic Novels. I am surprised by all of this except the graphic novels number. I love them and I tend to gravitate towards them when I find myself in a reading slump. Also, I now order for two collections, teen and adult, so I am trying to familiarize myself more with the adult collection. The real shocker was how I struggled to come up with 10 favorite YA books of the year. What’s that all about? What am I not reading that is awesome? I’ll be spending the evening looking at everyone’s lists for ideas.

1. The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige. I really like this dark and gritty Oz reimagination.

wicked will rise

2. The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This one comes out July 7 and it is awesome! I loved the political intrigue and it is incredibly timely considering how much the Supreme Court has been in the news lately.

3. All the Rage by Courtney Summers. This one is tough to read, but so captivating. I couldn’t put it down.

all the rage

4. Mortal Heart by Robin Lafevers. The last book in His Fair Assassin trilogy does not disappoint! I wonder how long I will have to wait for another book from her?

mortal heart

5. The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson. I love the Shades of London series and book two ending with a shock. Book three took the story in a fascinating direction. I can’t wait to see how it all ends.

6. Firefight by Brandon Sanderson. I am obsessed. End of story.

7. Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee. I am a sucker for girls disguised as boys!

8. Wild Rover No More by L.A. Meyer. Such a bittersweet ending.

9. Last Stand of Dead Men by Derek Landy. Another series I am obsessed with. I have a true crisis now-I can’t get the last book from a library! I think I am going to have to throw down a bunch of cash and buy the entire series…

last stand

10. Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. Another exciting trilogy ender.

retribution of mara dyerHmm. Maybe my slump is due to the fact that I am wrapping up a bunch of series and don’t know what to do with myself…
