“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

daughter of deep silence

From Goodreads:

“A delicious tale of revenge and identity from Carrie Ryan, the bestselling author of The Forest of Hands and Teeth

In the wake of the deadly devastation of luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace, rescued from the ocean after torturous days adrift with her dying friend Libby, knows that the Persephone wasn’t sunk by a rogue wave as survivors Senator Wells and his son are claiming—it was attacked.

To ensure her safety from the obviously dangerous and very powerful Wells family, Libby’s father helps newly orphaned Frances assume Libby’s identity. Frances has spent years in hiding, transforming herself into Libby, and she can no longer allow the people who murdered her entire family and Libby to get away with it. After years of careful plotting, she’s ready to set her revenge plans into motion—even if it means taking down the boy she’d once been in love with: the senator’s son.

The game has just begun, and Frances is not only playing dirty, she’s playing to win.”

I am so excited for a new YA book from Carrie Ryan! And a romantic thriller? How unexpected after her zombie trilogy. I can’t wait for summer 2015!

Happy Reading!

miss mayhem

Miss Mayhem (Rebel Belle #2) by Rachel Hawkins
April 7, 2015

From Goodreads:

“Life is almost back to normal for Harper Price. The Ephors have been silent after their deadly attack at Cotillion months ago, and best friend Bee has returned after a mysterious disappearance. Now Harper can return her focus to the important things in life: school, canoodling with David, her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-boyfie, and even competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant.

Unfortunately, supernatural chores are never done. The Ephors have decided they’d rather train David than kill him. The catch: Harper has to come along for the ride, but she can’t stay David’s Paladin unless she undergoes an ancient trial that will either kill her . . . or connect her to David for life.”

Rebel Belle was such a fun read! I am looking forward to more of this story.

I really loved The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate and always wondered if there would be more to the story. The wait is (almost) over! There *is* more!

As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust (Flavia de Luce #7) by Alan Bradley
January 6, 2015

From Goodreads:

“Hard on the heels of the return of her mother’s body from the frozen reaches of the Himalayas, Flavia, for her indiscretions, is banished from her home at Buckshaw and shipped across the ocean to Miss Bodycote’s Female Academy in Toronto, her mother’s alma mater, there to be inducted into a mysterious organization known as the Nide.

No sooner does she arrive, however, than a body comes crashing down out of the chimney and into her room, setting off a series of investigations into mysterious disappearances of girls from the school.”

I LOVE Flavia and her precocious ways.

Waiting on Wednesday-Black Dove, White Raven-10/22/14

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

black dove

Black Dove, White Raven by Elizabeth Wein
March 31, 2015

From Goodreads:

“Emilia and Teo’s lives changed in a fiery, terrifying instant when a bird strike brought down the plane their stunt pilot mothers were flying. Teo’s mother died immediately, but Em’s survived, determined to raise Teo according to his late mother’s wishes-in a place where he won’t be discriminated against because of the color of his skin. But in 1930s America, a white woman raising a black adoptive son alongside a white daughter is too often seen as a threat.

Seeking a home where her children won’t be held back by ethnicity or gender, Rhoda brings Em and Teo to Ethiopia, and all three fall in love with the beautiful, peaceful country. But that peace is shattered by the threat of war with Italy, and teenage Em and Teo are drawn into the conflict. Will their devotion to their country, its culture and people, and each other be their downfall or their salvation?

In the tradition of her award-winning and bestselling Code Name Verity, Elizabeth Wein brings us another thrilling and deeply affecting novel that explores the bonds of friendship, the resilience of young pilots, and the strength of the human spirit.”

I am excited for a new historical fiction book from Elizabeth Wein. I am even more excited that it is not a Holocaust book!

Waiting on Wednesday-Dream a Little Dream-10/15/14

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

dream a little dream

Dream a Little Dream (The Silver Trilogy) by Kerstin Gier
January 6, 2015
Originally published at Silber:Das zweite Buch der Träume: Roman on March 8, 2013

From Goodreads:

“Mysterious doors with lizard-head knobs. Talking stone statues. A crazy girl with a hatchet. Yep, Liv’s dreams have been pretty weird lately. Especially this one where she’s in a graveyard at night, watching four boys perform dark magic rituals. The really weird thing is that Liv recognizes the boys in her dream. They’re classmates from her new school in London, the school where’s she’s starting over because her mom has moved them to a new country (again). But they seem to know things about her in real life that they couldn’t possibly know, which is mystifying. Then again, Liv could never resist a good mystery. . . .”

I loved Kerstin Gier’s Ruby Red time-travel trilogy, so I was very excited to learn that a new series was being translated and released in the U.S. The wait is always longer for a translation, but Kerstin’s books are worth the wait! I do have one tiny complaint. The cover is dreadful! Check out these foreign covers:
