Top Ten Tuesday-Books I Will Probaby Never Read 5/5/15

toptentuesday

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish a bit different. It’s all about books that are *not* on our giant TBR lists (or maybe they are and we finally admit to ourselves that in reality we will probably never get to most of them). Anyway. I am fairly certain that I am not ever going to read James Joyce or Moby Dick or any number of classics that I probably should have, so I have kept my list to current titles only.

1. Maze Runner by James Dashner. I could not get into the audio because I can’t handle a full cast. I never felt an overwhelming need to try it in print.

2. Graceling by Kristen Cashore. See above.

3. The Heir by Kiera Cass. The Selection was like a train wreck. I couldn’t stop myself. I had to look despite the fact that I actually disliked each and every book in the series. I will not waste any more time in this convoluted world.

4. Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I wanted to like this one, but I couldn’t get past the first chapter.

5. Anything John Green writes in the future. TFIOS was a deal breaker. I am done with him.

6. Just One Year by Gayle Forman. I was underwhelmed with Just One Day. I am not sure I will read anymore Gayle Forman.

7. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I just think that ship has sailed for me. It’s been a while since I have read a vampire book.

8. The Recruit by Robert Muchamore. This has be on my TBR list for years. I will probably never get to it.

9. After the End by Amy Plum. I was not ready to start a new series when this one came out so I fear I may never go back and read it as more books in the series become available.

10. Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raach. See above.

Bonus: I try to avoid cancer books and Holocaust books like the plague. I hesitate to say NEVER, because, well, every now and then one tricks me into trying it.

Happy Reading!

  1. I also try to avoid books about the Holocaust. Most of them seem to be the same and they always make me too emotional. The one exception was The Book Thief.
You should really give Graceling a chance! I have never listened to the audiobook, but I loved it in print. The world is so interesting and unique, along with the characters.

  2. I read Foreman’s latest book and wanted to throw in across the room in frustration. I’m done with her as well.

  3. I enjoyed Fault in Our Stars for what it was, but I know a LOT of people who are pretty much done with John Green because of that too.

One book I’ll probably never read is The Scarlett Letter. I’ve started it twice, and just can’t do it. I like other classics like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, etc., but I can’t seem to get through that one.

  4. I’ve tried to read The Maze Runner and I couldn’t get more than ten pages into it before I gave up. It wasn’t exactly an engaging read to me.

Here’s my TTT post if you want to check it out: https://caffeineandbooks42.wordpress.com/2015/05/05/top-ten-tuesday-books-ill-probably-never-readfinish/

    Happy reading!

  5. I am also done with John Green after TFIOS. The Selection was on my list too. I really liked The Maze Runner but it’s not for everyone and the slang they use can be a little off putting.

  6. I thorougly enjoyed the Vampire Academy books, and The Fault in our Stars, though TFIOS was pretty dark and grim.
