Waiting on Wednesday-The Cure for Dreaming 5/21/14

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I am so excited about this one:

cure for dreaming

The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters
October 14, 2014

From Goodreads:

“Olivia Mead is a headstrong, independent girl—a suffragist—in an age that prefers its girls to be docile. It’s 1900 in Oregon, and Olivia’s father, concerned that she’s headed for trouble, convinces a stage mesmerist to try to hypnotize the rebellion out of her. But the hypnotist, an intriguing young man named Henri Reverie, gives her a terrible gift instead: she’s able to see people’s true natures, manifesting as visions of darkness and goodness, while also unable to speak her true thoughts out loud. These supernatural challenges only make Olivia more determined to speak her mind, and so she’s drawn into a dangerous relationship with the hypnotist and his mysterious motives, all while secretly fighting for the rights of women. Winters breathes new life into history once again with an atmospheric, vividly real story, including archival photos and art from the period throughout.”

I loved Cat Winters’ stunning debut, In the Shadow of Blackbirds. I expect this next offering to be just as amazing! This is how I love my historical fiction-with a touch of the supernatural, plenty of suspense, and a little mystery. Also, her covers are phenomenal!

Happy Reading!

Waiting on Wednesday-Blood of My Blood 2/19/14

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I have been trying to select books that are actually coming soon, but couldn’t resist this one.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

blood of my blood

Blood of My Blood, Jasper Dent #3 by Barry Lyga. September 9, 2014.

I am really enjoying the Jasper Dent series and the second book ended with a heart-racing cliffhanger. Jazz is a great character, as are his two companions, Connie and Howie. I can’t wait to find out how things end for these three. Haven’t read I Hunt Killers and Game? There is plenty of time to get started!

From Goodreads:

Jazz Dent has ***spoiler removed***. His girlfriend Connie is ***spoiler removed***. And his best friend Howie is ***spoiler removed*** in tiny Lobo’s Nod. Somehow, these three must rise above the horrors their lives have become and find a way to come together ***spoiler removed***. But then Jazz crosses a line he’s never crossed before, and soon the entire country is wondering: “Like father, like son?” Who is the true monster?
The chase is on, and beyond Billy there lurks something much, much worse. Prepare to meet…the Crow King.

Happy Reading!

Waiting on Wednesday-Dreams of Gods and Monsters 2/12/14

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

dreams of gods and monsters

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor, April 17, 2014.

As this is the third book in the series, I won’t post the description since it has spoilers for the first two books. Just know that I am desperate to know how this series ends. Desperate. Gimme, gimme, gimme.

Happy Reading!

Waiting on Wednesday-Rebel Belle 2/5/14

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

rebel belleRebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins
April 8, 2014

I really enjoyed most of Rachel Hawkins’ Hex Hall series. I was little disappointed with a few things in the final book, but overall they were so much fun. This author can certainly deliver sass and snark, which are totally my favorites!

From Goodreads.com

“Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper’s destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can’t get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she’s charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper’s least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him–and discovers that David’s own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y’all beg for more.”

Waiting on Wednesday-Dorothy Must Die 1/29/14

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

dorothy

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige, April 1, 2014

From Goodreads:

“I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still the yellow brick road, though—but even that’s crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart.
Steal the Scarecrow’s brain.
Take the Lion’s courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die!”

Oh. My. God. I can’t wait. I want this so bad. I need it to be so amazing.

Top Ten Tuesday-2014 Debuts 1/14/14

toptentuesday

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday list, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish is all about 2014 Debuts. In no particular order, here are just a few that I am excited to read:

1. Far From You by Tess Sharpe, April 2014

far from you

This standalone mystery/thriller looks pretty interesting. I don’t read enough YA mysteries.

2. The Break-Up Artist by Philip Siegel, April 2014

breakup artist

This contemporary debut sounds like it is cute and funny. I like cute and funny!

3. The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cumming, June 2014

murder complexAnd then we have the opposite of cute and funny! The Goodreads description actually beings with the words action-packed and blood-soaked. I am kind of scared.

4. Open Road Summer by Emery Lord, April 2014

open road summer

I am a complete sucker for a road trip book. The last one I read was a bit of a let-down, so I have high hopes for this one.

5. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige, April 2014.

dorothy

I am SO EXCITED for this Wizard of Oz retelling! An evil Dorothy? Genius!

6. Dear Killer by Katherine Ewell, April 2014.

dear killer

April is going to be a very busy month! A teenaged, female Dexter? LOVE!

7. Killer Instinct by S.E. Green, May 2014.

killer instinct

Another serial killer tale with a female POV. This is so exciting! 2014, The Year of the Female Serial Killer!

8. Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy March, 2014

side effects may vary

As a rule I do not read cancer books. TFIOS was the last straw and I vowed to never do it again. However, this one seems like it may have a happy ending, so I am willing to give it a try. I will even wait for spoilers, just to be sure. So, if anyone has already read it and confirm that there is no cancer death involved, please let me know!

9. Sekret by Lindsay Smith, April 2014

sekret

A paranormal, dystopian, historical thriller? Um, sure. Ok. I’ll bite.

10. No One Else Can Have You by Kathleen Hale, January 2014

no one else can have you

This debut mystery is getting mixed review, but I love the cover so much that I just have to check it out for myself.

So, most of these debuts come out in early spring. Have I missed any must-reads? How about things coming out later in the year?

Happy Reading!
